Standing on Main Street, the Story of America’s Route 66 in Paintings

Route 66 is America’s 2,400-mile Main Street. Since its inception as one of the country’s first all-weather highways in 1926, it has become one of the most famous roads in the United States. In its hundred-year history, songs have been dedicated to it. Hundreds of thousands of people have traveled it by car and on foot. Movies, television shows, and books have been inspired by it.  The Route runs diagonally from Chicago to Los Angeles, covering eight states and three time zones.

I’m a classically trained realist painter and have spent the last several years standing on streets along the Route, painting what I saw, and recording the stories of the people who visited with me while I was working.

Standing on Main Street, The Story of America’s Route 66 in Paintings, is a record of my travels in stories and paintings.  It will be available for purchase on November 20, 2025.

The book includes 100 pages of stories, illustrations, and photos from 36 towns along the Route, for $39.95.

COME JOIN ME AT BLUE STREAK GALLERY ON NOVEMBER 21st TO CELEBRATE THE BOOK’S LAUNCH, HAVE A SIP OF SOMETHING DELICIOUS MADE BY LA-BASED MIXOLOGIST, ELLA ZOLLER, AND SEE PAINTINGS AND PRINTS FROM THE ROUTE.

2026 IS ROUTE 66’S CENTENNIAL YEAR. LET’S CELEBRATE!
